INDIGO POINT MOVES CLOSER TO COMPLETION AS THE YEAR 2021 COMES TO AN END

by | Jan 1, 2022 | Uncategorized | 19 comments

The work on Indigo Point continues. In late November, I returned to Phoenix for Thanksgiving. I was back on site by December 1st and stayed until December 15th when I returned home to Phoenix to celebrate Christmas. The time on site is hectic and goes by quickly. By the time I depart for home, I am pretty beat and I am ready to relax and enjoy my time with Brigid and Summer. The exterior synthetic stucco (Dryvit) has been applied to the exterior of all of the buildings. The interior tile is laid and most of the interior painting is done. The exterior tile which resembles coral stone is going in currently. The Mitsubishi split system air conditioning is being installed. The plumbers are setting the pumps, filters and pressure tanks for each unit. The formwork to reconstruct the stone stairway down to Summer’s seaside cottage is complete and the stones are being placed. The landscape contractor has visited the site and has come up with a plan. Boots, our gardener, has started planting coconut, mango and citrus trees. Two 20′ shipping containers will be unloaded at the site the first few days of the new year. One contains all the cabinetry, vanities and countertops. The other container is filled with the first of the home goods and furnishings. The container with the majority of the furniture should arrive in late January. A container with the windows and doors for the garage and garage doors should arrive shortly thereafter.

Here are photos to give you a better update in pictures:

SUMMER’S SEASIDE COTTAGE:

Stones placed in concrete. There will be grout added between the stones to make the walkway smoother.
Form work for front patio.

MASTER COTTAGE:

There will be a walkway from the main house to the master cottage.

The light fixtures and fans have been installed in the master cottage.

THE FOLKS WHO MAKE THIS ALL HAPPEN:

The construction crew has changed over time based on the work being performed. This is the finishing crew which includes the electricians, plumbers, painters, plasterers and rock masons. The foreman, Poncho, is kneeling in the front row in the middle wearing the black t-shirt.
The construction crew would not get to the site each day without my barge captain, Devon, and first mate, Nigel. Devon is on the right and Nigel on the left. I don’t try to pilot the barge. Devon is a master at it and never loses his cool. Without Nigel’s cat like leaps and great finesse with the lines, the barge would not get tied up to the dock. There is always wind and waves and landing the barge is no easy feat.
This is my gardener, Boots. He does the work of about three men once he gets his cup of coffee. He has now planted 20-30 coconut trees. He also has plenty of mango and pineapple trees on the way. Boots teaches me the local terminology and gives me lots of direction. He says that I am a “Real Soldier” and a “Roughneck” because I am not afraid to work and get my hands dirty. I take these as sincere compliments. He also tries to teach me how to do certain things with the regular admonition that “You have to use your head man!” Boots was the gardener for the prior owners, Ron and Claire Rowe. He will tell you that “he came with the property.” We are glad he did.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

The construction should be substantially completed by the middle of February. We hope that all the furniture is in place by the end of February. Once we are confidant that everything is operational and we feel settled, we will start to reach out with invitations to come visit. We can’t wait to share Indigo Point with family and friends.

Best wishes to you and your families for a healthy, happy and fruitful 2022.

It is looking good. One question. Does it come with a window washer?

There were a lot of events and "meant to be" occurrences that brought us to Indigo Point in the British Virgin Islands. The first was more than 63 years ago, before I was born. My mom, Donna, was 8 months pregnant with me when she and my dad, Glenn, plus my two older...
